To begin a new Photo Story:
1. Upon opening the program, you will be faced with the screen shown below, giving you the option of "Begin a new story," "Edit a project," or "Play a story."  Select "Begin a new story" from the options, and click the "Next" button in the lower right of the program's window.  At any time during the process of making your project, you may click the "Save Project" button.

2. Next you will be asked to import pictures into Photo Story.  Click the "Import Pictures" button located in the program window.  A "Browse" window will appear.  Find the location of your pictures, select them, and click "OK."  Give Photo Story 3 a few minutes to import the pictures into it's workspace.  Photo Story gives you the option to size all pictures the same so when pictures of different sizes are used together for the finished project, the pictures will not show a black border.  To utilize this, click the text that says "Remove black borders."  (This might take a few minutes)  It is recommended that you use this tool to improve the look of the completed project.  Once you are ready to move on, click "Next."

3. Next, you will be given the option of adding titles and effects to your pictures.  On the right side of the screen, you can enter text and edit its appearance for each picture.  Below the picture view, you can add visual effects to each picture.  Select which picture you'd like to edit using the filmstrip along the bottom of the window.  Once you are satisfied with your changes, press "Next."

4. Next you will be given the option to change the transition between each picture, and also add narration to your project.  To edit the transition effects between pictures, click the  "Customize Motion..." button located below the large picture viewer.  To record narration, use the record button, on the right side of the picture.  For a more detailed tutorial on adding transition effects and narration, click the text "Learn more about customizing motion and selecting transitions."  Once you added what you want, click "Next."

5. Next you will be asked if you want to add music to your final product.  If you do not want to add a music track, simply click "Next."  However, if you choose to add music to your final product, click "Select Music..." and find the desired track you wish to add.  You can click the text "Learn more about adding background music" for a more detailed instruction.  Once finished, click "Next."

6. After completing all the above steps, it's time to save your Photo Story project.  You will be given several options as shown below under "Activities."  It is recommended to save your story (the first option) before sending or viewing the project.  Select "Save your story for playback on your computer" to save your project as an MPEG.  Once you have selected this option, click the "Browse" button to select the location at which you'd like to save your project.  You can adjust settings of the final MPEG by clicking "Settings."  This will allow you to change resolution size (viewing size of the MPEG), and picture quality.  Once you have selected the location and preferred settings, click "Next."  Your pictures will then be converted into MPEG format, and saved to the specified location.

To edit an existing Photo Story project:
1. If you have a previously saved Photo Story project, you may select the "Edit a project" option.  Upon clicking "Next" you will be asked to select the location of your saved project.  Find and select it, and click "Open."  After opening your file, you will be given editing options, the same as those you were able to use when creating it.
