VISUAL ARTS

Overview

The High School ACAMIS Arts Conference, Pushing the Limits, offers three visual arts clinics:  Digital Photography, Figure Drawing, and Clayworks.

The Digital Photography Clinic provides an opportunity for students to work with a professional photographer 'in the field'.  Photography students will spend a full day shooting images of Shanghai's people and places.

In addition to taking photographs, students will learn various techniques, processes, and concepts regarding photojournalism and art photography.

For the Photography Clinic, students are REQUIRED to provide their own camera.  Please note that CISS will not be responsible for any stolen or lost photography equipment.

The Figure Drawing Clinic provides an opportunity for student to work with a professional artist in a concentrated and focused time frame.  Working from a model, drawing students will spend two days studying line, form, and composition as well as experimenting with various styles, concepts, and approaches to art.  Much of the work will be large scale.

The Figure Drawing Clinic would be a good opportunity for AP Studio Art students to create drawings for their portfolio.

The Clayworks Clinic provides an opportunity for students to work with a professional potter in both handbuilding and glazing.  Students will create small porcelain figures and jewelry as well as paint a porcelain plate in traditional Chinese motifs.

Included in the Clayworks Clinic is a trip to the contemporary galleries on Morganshan Lu – the 'SoHo/Chelsea' of Shanghai.

To register for any of the Visual Arts clinics, students MUST have had at least one year of high school  studio art in an academic setting.  That studio art class may be a general, comprehensive course or a  course  in any visual arts discipline.

Visual Arts students attending the conference are REQUIRED to participate in two art exhibition:  The Conference Exhibition and The Clinics' Exhibition.

For the Conference Exhibition, each student is REQUIRED to bring one work of art to the conference for The Conference Exhibition.  The work may be of any medium and either 2 or 3 dimensional.  All 2-D work MUST be matted or framed for hanging.  Please let us know whether the work is 2 or 3 dimensional.
