THEATRE - 'ACTING SHAKESPEARE'PAGE 1 of 2
Light me up! "Give me light!" Raise the curtain!
If you were to ask a random selection of actors from around the world what they desire most from the act of acting, undoubtedly many would reply; a great play, a stage and an audience. Actors might indeed preclude their response with secondary needs; laughter, praise, admiration, respect, the energy and very essence that makes an audience a living entity which in turn justifies theatre as an artform. 'Give me give me give me.'
That said, actors in turn provide entertainment, elicit laughter and tears, joy and sorrow and in doing so meet their audience's expectations for entertainment, education, awareness, a coherced and secretive individualistic introspection into the life, the universe and everything, and most importantly into the Self. In doing so, actors please their audiences to justify a night at the theatre; time and money spent.
Now if you were to poll the same group of actors and ask them "how did you become successful at acting?" you would most certainly attain a multitude of answers, but a common reponse repeated over and over around the globe is "opportunities, experience and demand." Opportunies: theatre students in attendance will participate in a safe environment where they can do unsafe things; bare their character's soul, and more importantly, their developing artistic identity, to clinican Matthew Grey and Chad Doering who will offer constructive feedback and a variety of workshopping on skill-sets and techniques in acting Shakespeare. The feedback has two purposes:
