THEATRE (SHAKESPEARE) REQUIREMENTS

All participating students and their respective theatre instructors must arrive the ACAMIS conference with the following…

  1. a prepared, memorized, ready to perform 5-8 minute, 2 to 3 character scene from any one of Shakespeare’s 36 plays.
  2. An understanding of the entire play from which the scene has been cut.
  3. A studied and rehearsed understanding of character, plot, sub-plot(s), and theme.
  4. Design elements: all design elements and choices must reinforce the style and message of the scene in concert with each ensemble’s directorial and acting choices.
    • Properties, costumes and make-up may be as minimal or lavish as you like it; at each school’s discretion.  All materials and supplies must be provided by each school in attendance.
    • Individual lighting and sound effects or requests will NOT be supported.  Let’s keep the focus rooted in text, body and voice. (*see note below concerning supported venue production values).
  5. Loose fitting clothing (i.e.: sweat shirts, t-shirts, cotton socks, etc…) for exercises and workshops.
  6. Good health, good cheer, a willingness to explore, to create, to push the boundaries from within and without in all that is said and done.

Concordia, as host of ACAMIS 2008, will provide the following in regards to sessions and performance.

  1. A brand NEW, fully functional 333 seat theatre with a 35’ x 35’ (10.668m x 10.668 m) proscenium opening & performance space (not including wing space).
  2. Apron: front of main drape- 12 feet (3.6576 m) deep, 35 feet (10.668 m) wide
  3. Lighting
    • General washes in medium amber and cyan in additive mixtures: c.s., d.s., u.s., s.l., and s.r.
  4. Leggings and masking for s.r and s.l.
  5. A cross over passage backstage.
  6. A house curtain (horizontal operation).
  7. Two follow spotlights.
  8. Dressing rooms with mirrors, lights, showers and hot water.
  9. A greenroom.
  10. Sound
    1. General pre-recorded audio music will accompany change-overs from each scene in performance. Production specific recordings and audio requests cannot be accomodated due to the short time frame in which to put each show together as a night of Shakespeare in performance.
