The theatre portion of the ACAMIS Fine Arts Conference is rooted in performing Shakespeare. The goals of pushing Shakespeare at this year's conference, is to provide students with insightful, intense, in-depth experiences in character development, acting styles, language usage, bodily preparedness and movement.
Participating students will arrive at the conference with a prepared, ready to perform 5-8 minute, 2 to 3 character (2 or 3 actors) scene from any one of Shakespeare’s 36 plays (see requirements). Clinicians Matthew Gray and Chad Doering will work with all students in both large and small group settings (see Clinic for more details) in all of the areas mentioned above. Both instructors will review each scene with the intent of providing constructive feedback in concert with the goals of the clinic so that students may incorporate their experiences at the conference into their scene work.
The scenes will be performed Friday night, billed as “Pushing Shakespeare: an evening of short scenes.”
The scenes are NOT of a competitive nature and no one scene or group will be awarded or highlighted. The need for each school’s preparedness of their scenes is two-fold:
Clinicians will continue working with students throughout Saturday in various performance related areas (see schedule).
