Overall Themes in Art
2009-2010
Preschool
Students are introduced to the basics of art and creating,
including drawing, painting, cutting and gluing. Projects will focus
on the exploration of materials. Projects may correlate with studies
happening in the classrooms. Preschool meets once very seven school
days for 30 minutes.
Kindergarten
Students explore four different regions of the world
through art. The history, daily life, and culture of these regions bring
out the origins of the art we see today. A wide variety of materials
including paint, clay, crayons, scissors, oil pastels, yarn, glitter, and
watercolors are used to replicate the style, technique, or design used in
these different regions of the world.

Grades
1 and 2
Students are introduced to the elements of design which
include line, shape, color, texture, space, value, and form. A wide variety
of projects will be created including but not limited to, drawing, painting,
printmaking, collage, and clay works. Projects may correlate with studies
happening in the classrooms.
Grades
3 and 4
Students expand on the elements of design and are
introduced to the principles of design which include movement, emphasis,
contrast, proportion, balance, pattern, and rhythm. A wide variety of
projects will be created including but not limited to drawing, painting,
collage, papier Mache, and clay works. Projects may correlate with studies
happening in the classrooms.
